The first videogame to introduce stealth-like gameplay was Castle Wolfenstein in 1981 on the Apple II. In Castle Wolfenstein, a player went from level to level collecting documents and disguises while trying not to be seen by guards. This 8-bit masterpiece laid the groundwork for the stealth genre, but the genre needed a more mainstream-oriented game to set the new genre off.  With the release of Metal Gear in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the stealth genre, as well as one of the best-selling game series of all time, had been brought to video games. Metal Gear picked-up right where Castle Wolfenstein left off, while also offering a new and improved gameplay style.

  Watching others play solo player video games can get dull and drawn out, yet Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (GH3) is an exception. We all know what it feels like gathering in a group of friends and watching one person play a game, long and dull. GH3 has solved this problem for all gamers. GH3 is both addictive as a solo game and as a group experience. Groups can gather around a television to watch and root each other along while listening to both classic and modern rock songs.             “Hey dude.  Is that World of Warcraft you’re playing?”

            “No, it’s (insert non-WoW MMORPG here).”

            “It looks like World of Warcraft.”

            “Well, it’s (insert non-WoW MMORPG here).”

            “It looks pretty much the same.  What’s the difference?”

            “There are a lot of differences.  Different game mechanics, spells, classes, environments.”

            “So basically it’s WoW.”

            This is the common conversation I have with any of my roommates who catch me playing any MMORPG that isn’t World of Warcraft.  It infuriates me.  It makes me wish I had never played WoW...
