As many of you know, and by now figured out, I quit adding news to Game Spine. There are a number of reasons for this, so I’m not going to go into detail. Of course Game Spine will always host the community. Maybe I will do more with that, add some products, or… I don’t know you tell me. /shrug see you in the forums and in game.

Bench-Pressing “Crysis”
Written by Steven Cathy

When Crysis was released in 2007, there wasn’t really a computer that could run the game on maximum graphical detail.  I still don’t think there is.  I recently tested the game on my friend’s brand-new $4,000 machine, only to find him dismayed when he discovered Crysis had low frame-rates when the anti-aliasing was turned on.  But at a resolution of 1920x1080, with settings and special effects turned up to “really high” (using DirectX 10)Medium, I couldn’t see the point in enabling anti-aliasing.  The game looks better than most other shooters even at low detail.  But, for the purposes of this article, I decided to run the game at different settings on my “Windows XP” computer and make comparisons of those settings.  I will also give a brief testament to what (little?) you’re missing out on if you aren’t playing this game on “Windows Vista.”

Guitar Hero 3
Written by Caroline Berberch

Watching others play solo player video games can get dull and drawn out, yet Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (GH3) is an exception. We all know what it feels like gathering in a group of friends and watching one person play a game, long and dull. GH3 has solved this problem for all gamers. GH3 is both addictive as a solo game and as a group experience. Groups can gather around a television to watch and root each other along while listening to both classic and modern rock songs. For an added extra, at the conveniently “low” cost of roughly $80 you can buy a second guitar and be stars in a whole new world with GH3...

WoW Killer

“Hey dude.  Is that World of Warcraft you’re playing?”

“No, it’s (insert non-WoW MMORPG here).”

“It looks like World of Warcraft.”

“Well, it’s (insert non-WoW MMORPG here).”

“It looks pretty much the same.  What’s the difference?”

“There are a lot of differences.  Different game mechanics, spells, classes, environments.”

            “So basically it’s WoW.”

This is the common conversation I have with any of my roommates who catch me playing any MMORPG that isn’t World of Warcraft.  It infuriates me.  It makes me wish I had never played WoW...

Newsflash

Take-Two Interactive announced today that BioShock 2 was officially in the works, under the development wing of the recently formed 2K Marin studio. The sequel—rumored to actually be a prequel—to the Xbox 360 and PC shooter is planned for a fourth-quarter fiscal 2009 release date. Take-Two's fiscal year ends October 31, so expect it to hit platforms before the '09 holidays.
